After a remarkable year in television, the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards will return to a fully live and in person event with Cedric the Entertainer handling hosting duties. The nominations for the 73rd annual award show were announced Tuesday morning with plenty of surprises, locks, and more.
Announcing this year's nominations were father and daughter acting duo Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones. Both father and daughter made history last year when they both won Emmys at the 2020 ceremony. Ron won for his work on This is Us and Jasmine for her role in #FreeRayshawn.
The awards are set to air Sunday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m on CBS.
HBO has received the most nominations this year with a combined 130 nominations between the network and the HBO Max streaming platform.
Once again streaming network shows garner a lot of attention with The Crownon Netflix and Disney Plus'sThe Mandalorian each received 24 nominations followed closely by WandaVision (23 nominations) also on Disney Plus. The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu nabbed 21 nominations.
