The 73rd Emmy Awards is set in stone! The Television Academy and CBS announced on Tuesday that the Emmys this year will air live on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET. Not only will it air on CBS, but it will also stream on Paramount Plus.
Not everything was announced on Tuesday as the host, producers, and venue for the Emmys still needs to be claimed. They also still have to decide what to do with the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for this year. Will it be held over multiple nights like last year or the weekend before the primetime ceremony for two nights like years past.
Last year, ABC aired the Emmys and they were mostly virtual. The host was Jimmy Kimmel and they only had a few people inside the staples center.
They are likely dragging their feet on announcing the rest as a lot can happen between now and September.
The list of host possibilities for this years award show is pretty long. Some of the contenders are late night show hosts Stephan Colbert and James Corden, comedy central's Trevor Noah, Showtime Desus & Mero and last but not least The Equalizer star Queen Latifah.
The period to enter the Emmys started on June 1, 2020 and is accepting until May 31, 2021. Then there are multiple rounds after the close date that lead up tot the final voting day of August 30, at 10 p.m.
