On Thursday morning, not only did the four-time Grammy-award-winner announce the arrival of his fourth studio solo album, but he also revealed its cover and title. As if that wasn’t enough, Sheeran released a single from the highly anticipated upcoming album entitled “Visiting Hours”. The English singer-songwriter took to Instagram Live to make the announcement:
“My friend Zach has designed the cover which is great. You will have seen the little chrysalis cocoon that is on there. Basically the symbolism behind the album is new life. You know, I’ve been through, the last sort of four years, different experiences in life including, you know, getting married, having a kid, losing a friend, and I just felt like the butterfly symbolism fit in with that.”
The aforementioned album cover was later revealed in an Instagram post which was uploaded shortly after Sheeran went Live.
The caption is a lot to take in. First off, the pop sensation reminded fans that this album has been four years in the making. His last solo record, Divide (÷), dropped back in March of 2017, believe it or not. Secondly, Sheeran admitted that he’s “never been more proud of a body of work, or more excited/nervous for [the fans] to hear it,” which is a big statement considering every solo album he’s released thus far has been adored by fans. Finally, Sheeran revealed that the album’s second single, “Visiting Hours” is a tribute to his late friend Michael. Along with the album came the release of this song on streaming services. The album is also available for preorder here.
