Ed Sheeran Almost Quit Music Following The Birth Of His Daughter

Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran recently told Sirius XM Hits 1 in a candid interview that he once imagined walking away from the music scene forever to focus on raising his daughter.

Last year Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn welcomed their first child Lyra amidst the global pandemic. The "Shape Of You" singer was just coming off of his widely successful "÷" tour which set the record for tour grosses amassing more than $776 million and played 260 shows.

The U.K. musician recalled thoughts on his last night on tour in 2019 as a 28-year-old wondering what was next as far as his music goals and already achieving his already unattainable success.

"I'm 28 and, like, I don't know what to do now. I've kind of, like, chased and chased and chased and chased and got to this thing and then in my year off I was kind of searching for, like, who I was," Sheeran expressed.

Sheeran used his time during quarantine to focus on his newborn and completely quit creating music for a while, shifting his life purpose to being the best stay-at-home Dad he could be. But sacrificing his creativity with music later on made him realize music was "entirely who he is as a person.

"Right, that's it ... this is me I'm just gonna be a dad. I'm not gonna play music anymore,"Sheeran recalled. "I found myself getting really sad and like having zero purpose. Even though I was putting time and effort into being a dad," Sheeran shared.

But the Grammy singer quickly had a change of heart epiphany during his career transition:
"And I suddenly realized, I think it's more important for my daughter to grow up knowing that her parents have the work ethic and her parents love working hard and love creating and enjoy their jobs and seeing that rather than like looking at your dad as technically unemployed if that makes sense."

Sheeran has since released his single "Bad Habits" which is currently sitting at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Ecxl. U.S. for its third week. The single will follow his fourth studio album which hasn't been given a set release date yet.
