It seems the cable giant's foray into the streaming world is paying dividends, with Discovery+ reporting eleven million subscribers during their Q4 report, just a month and a half after launching the service.
A Promising Start
These are very positive numbers for Discovery. By comparison, their 11 million mark eclipses HBO Max's mark of eight million in roughly the same time frame. Execs at Discovery have said they expect they could reach 70 million domestic subscribers, so getting 11 million in their first report seems to be right on track. The company exceeded revenue, subscription, and viewership expectations in the same quarterly report.
Spin-Off Payoff
A large part of the streamer's tactic in gaining subscribers is spin-offs of their existing hits exclusive to the platform. Most recently, the return of Alton Brown's iconic cooking show Good Eatsmade its home on Discovery+.
