Stacey Dash and Alicia Silverstone

Happy birthday to the cult classic!

As if! Clueless turns 25 years old today as the film was released in theaters on July 19, 1995.

Clueless included young stars audiences love today like Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Donald Fasion, Breckin Meyer, Stacy Dash, and the late Brittany Murphy. Amy Heckerling's cult classic is a modern retelling of Jane Austin's "Emma" following a wealthy, popular but superficial and unemotional high school student Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) who believes she's a successful matchmaker, encouraging two of her teachers to begin dating. In honor of the film's anniversary, here are some fun facts about the film.

Mistake Left In

In Cher's rememberable debate scene Silverstone didn't know how to pronounce "Haitians" and it wasn't scripted. Heckerling decided to leave the mistake in the movie.

Paul's KU Hat

To pay homage to his alma mater, Paul Rudd sports a University of Kansas hat in the film in a few scenes. He had to give the hat to the costume department so he wouldn't lose it but hasn't seen the hat since.

Iconic Outfits

Silverstone's character Cher is known for her super stylish and trendy wardrobe. In fact, she had 60 costume changes throughout the film. According to Bustle, Silverstone she told Jen Chaney, the author of "As If: The Oral History of Clueless" that she doesn't have any of the outfits anymore.

Paul Rudd Wanted To Be In The Film

Paul Rudd wanted to play Christian or Murray, but casted as Cher's stepbrother Josh. He told Entertainment Weekly:

I thought Justin Walker's character, Christian, was a really good part. It was a cool idea, something I'd never seen in a movie before — the cool gay kid. And then I asked to read for Donald Faison's part, because I thought he was kind of a funny hip-hop wannabe. I didn't realize that the character was African-American.

Freeway Freakout

One of most memorable scenes in the film is the freeway freakout scene and was inspired by Heckerling's fear of driving. Back in 2015 she told Vogue:

"Any time I wind up in the lane where you can't quickly turn off of it and it's turning into the freeway, I just start screaming until I'm off of it,"

The hysterical and terrifying highway fiasco is a must watch!.

Dave Chapelle as Murray?

In the same Vogue interview Heckerling revealed she wanted comedian Dave Chapelle to play Murray.

"I never read him, but I met with Dave Chappelle because I just loved him in Men in Tights. I was thinking of him for Murray. But once I saw Donald . . . he had such a little kid, puppy-like quality that was so perfect. And Dave is such a strong, manly, edgy person—I'm sure he could act like a puppy kind of guy—but Dave Chappelle wasn't a little kid.

Donald Faison was casted as Murray who told Entertainment Weekly that he based his character on a guy who wanted to be Ice Cube's character in Boyz n the Hood.

Alicia Got The Role Thanks To Aerosmith

According to Interview magazine, Heckerling knew Silverstone was her top choice to play Cher from the start. She wanted to cast Silverstone for the part after seeing her in Aerosmith's music video "Cyrin".

What If Reese and Kerry Were In The Film?

Imagine Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington in the film? Both actresses auditioned for the film and Witherspoon spilled the details in a Buzzfeed video,

"One thing that is public and it came out last year, I auditioned so hard for Clueless and I didn't get it."

Iggy's Love For The Film

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea had one of the biggest hits in 2014 with her song "Fancy" that the music video pays homage and was a remake of the film.

Lip Sync Battle

In 2018, Silverstone performed "Fancy" on Lip-Sync Battle and even rocked one of her most memorable outfits, her iconic yellow plaid suit she wore in the original film.
