Christopher Nolan's 'Tenet' Nears $150 Million Worldwide

Tenet

In the middle of a global pandemic, Christopher Nolan's Tenet did not fail to impress viewers in movie theaters across the globe.

Tenet, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, has earned some major revenue as movie theaters across the United States begin to reopen. Director Christopher Nolan's film can be seen only in theaters.

Over Labor Day weekend, movie theaters saw the greatest turnout since the start of the pandemic. As a result, Tenet earned $20.2 million in just the U.S. and Canada alone. 70 percent of U.S. movie theaters are currently open but remain at half-capacity to promote social distancing. Major theaters in the market remain closed, including those in Los Angeles and New York.

The film earned $30 million over the weekend in China and $126 million overseas, where it debuted two weeks ago.

Warner Bros. released a statement to the press about the movie's gross earnings:

"Domestically, while our results show positive like-for-like theater indicators compared to previous films such as "Dunkirk," there is literally no context in which to compare the results of a film opening during a pandemic with any other circumstance. We are in unprecedented territory, so any comparisons to the pre-COVID world would be inequitable and baseless."

The news about the film is met with mixed reviews, as many people are concerned about the safety of viewers attending movie theaters at this time.
