Celebrating 55 Years Of 'Days Of Our Lives'

Celebrating 55 Years Of 'Days Of Our Lives' | Celebrity Page

The first episode premiered 55 years ago on November 8th!

For over half a century, Days of our Lives has been delivering new episodes to your television screen five days a week. Since the premiere of the soap opera on November 8th, 1965, the show has delivered over 14,000 episodes.

We spoke with Deidre Hall who started acting on the show in 1976 as "Marlena." Hall told Advocate Channel why the show is so important even now:

"What's especially meaningful to all of us right now is that this is a time when there are empty seats at the table. People can't be with their families, and they cant travel, they can't go home. They can't see people they most love right now. Days of our Lives is always there."

And moving forward, the show should still always be there. Hall's TV son, Eric Martsolf, said after 55 years, the cast and crew is looking forward to 55 more. To them, Days of our Lives has become a family:

"My first scene was with you. I walked through the door and this woman embraced me. It was a family and it has been a family ever since. Because, the fans have always been there for us too. It's such a mutual relationship we have with the fans cause honestly, a show doesn't last 55 years unless you have incredible loyalty behind you."

As a way of celebrating this monumental milestone, NBC is hosting a virtual fan event for viewers to take part in.

NBC puts on a Days event every year, but due to COVID-19 this year has to be a bit different. Hall explained:

"Every year we have an event that's called "Day of Days." We've got Universal Studios and hundreds and hundreds of fans get to come out. And now, with Covid, we can't do that."

Check out the event!

Over thirty cast members will come together digitally for a virtual tour of the set, fun games, and a Q&A.

Fans can also share their top moments from the show with the hashtag "#DOOL55" for a chance to be featured on the instagram page. The hashtag encourages viewers to have fun and get creative by recreating an iconic scene or outfit from the series.

You can tune in to the virtual fan event November 21st! Follow the @nbcdays instagram page for more updates.
