The show was actually cancelled by FOX in 2018, but amid an outcry of support, the show was picked up by NBC, where star Andy Samberg got his start on Saturday Night Live.

The show has won two Golden Globe Awards, amid a slew of other accolades, namely four Emmy nominations for Andre Braugher's portrayal of 99th precinct Captain Raymond Holt.

A Look at the New Season

In the wake of George Floyd's death, star Andy Samberg promised that the show would not only address police brutality, but take it head on in the upcoming 8th season.

The show has done this before, with Terry Crews' character being racially profiled by another officer while off duty. The show has done an admirable job with contentious issues in the past, but with other shows like Cops and Live PD being cancelled, there is a lot of pressure to live up to.

But this is nothing new for a show that fought tooth and nail to not only represent everybody they could on the air, be they BIPOC or LGBTQ, but fought to simply be on the air. Expect exciting things, funny things, and serious things in the show's final season!
