The cherished sitcom has now become a riveting drama series.

Morgan Cooper, a fan of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, created a short mock trailer on YouTube in March of 2019. Will Smith himself came across the video and admired the dedication Cooper put into it. Looking to branch the idea out more, Smith and Cooper became executive producers for a new series based on the YouTube trailer.

"It's really unimaginable. Who didn't grow up with the Fresh Prince? I feel like a little kid who got to step through the looking glasses and be like... now you're Aunt Viv. The show is definitely layered in drama. The complicatedness of life and the challenges of this young man coming into this new expansive world, but it's also about a family when they have to face who they are in hard times," Cassandra Freeman said.

Fans have been on the edge of their seats for the new series and the same can be said for co-star Jordan L. Jones.

"I'm excited for a lot of people to change their minds because I already seen that and honestly that was so exciting for me. Seeing, especially when the trailer dropped. This is dark, this is crazy," Jones said.

Tatyana Ali, an original member of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is cheering for the whole crew on the sidelines.

"I'm really excited for Will. I'm just very excited them. He's very proud of it and they've put a lot of effort and heart and soul into it."

Bel-Air will premiere February 13th on Peacock.
