It is almost every little girl's dream at one point in time to have a Barbie modeled after them. British professor and co-creator of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, Dr. Sarah Gilbert, was awarded this honor and her very own doll as part of a series product launch dedicated to inspirational women fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the world's leading toymakers, Mattel announced Wednesday that it had created a Barbie doll to honor Gilbert, the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine project leader as a "Barbie Role Model." The doll sports her signature long red hair, prominent black eyeglasses, and her professional navy pantsuit.

"My wish is that my doll will show children careers they may not be aware of, like a vaccinologist," Gilbert said.

In June, the Royal Family recognized the professor with a damehood during Queen Elizabeth II's Birthday Honors, hailing the "extraordinary efforts" of servants during the pandemic.

Other Barbie's created as part of the series include Amy O'Sullivan, a nurse who treated the first coronavirus patient in Brooklyn, New York.

Mattel also created Barbies of other women working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) including American frontline worker Dr. Audrey Cruz, who fought racial discrimination alongside other Asian-American health care workers.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is now widely used to protect people around the world from the coronavirus.
