The couple made the announcement one year after dating.

Avril Lavigne is going from "Girlfriend" to wife.

The singer took to Instagram to announce her engagement to pop-punk musician, Mod Sun. The post showed the two in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and was captioned,

"Oui! Je t'aime pour toujours. Dimanche. 27. Mars. 2022."

Mod Sun posted the same photo to his page, with the caption,

"The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes. You're too beautiful for my words to describe. I grabbed your hand + took one last breath…I said 'will you marry me?' + she said 'yes'. I love you Avril."

The couple met in 2020 to write music together, then began dating in November that year. Mod Sun co-wrote and co-produced many of the tracks from Lavigne's new album "Love Sux." The pop princess is also featured on his single "Flames" and appears in the song's music video.

Lavigne has referenced the "Love Sux" title in regards to her new relationship, saying,

"That's how I was feeling when I started making this album. I was, like, over it. I was like, 'I need a break from relationships, I'm gonna check out.' That didn't last very long, a couple days then I got myself a boyfriend."

Lavigne was previously married to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger. She's also dated Brody Jenner, as well as indie artist Pete Jonas, and billionaire Phillip Sarofim, whom she broke up with in 2019 after over a year together.

On Tthe Kelly Clarkson Show" in March, Lavigne joked to Clarkson,

"I'm literally never single. It was like the first time in my life...I moved out to Malibu and I like, was starting my life over. And I was like, all right, I'm good. Like, I'm just gonna focus on myself and like, do me and just like, give it a break. Plus, I haven't had the best luck, but I mean, I've had amazing relationships, and they've been like long-term and stuff."
