After great anticipation from fans, HBO has confirmed "Sex and the City" reboot "And Just Like That..." is getting a second season!
Executive producer Michael Patrick King revealed the news, celebrating in a statement,
"I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters—played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we're all thrilled."
He added,
"And Just like That… our Sex life is back."
"And Just Like That..." first aired in December with a ten-episode season that followed "Sex and the City" original stars, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) no longer in their twenties and thirties, but in their fifties. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) did not return for the reboot.
HBO Max says "And Just Like That..." is their most streamed series of all time. As they said in December when it originally aired,
"In terms of viewership, it's been phenomenal. [We] couldn't be happier with how it's doing in terms of reception."
The platform confirmed King's announcement, releasing their own statement that read,
"We have been delighted by the cultural conversation generated by these characters and their stories, set in a world we already know and love so much. We are proud of the work Michael Patrick King and our wonderful writers, producers, cast and crew have done to bring these stories to the screen."
In terms of the decision to create the reboot, the decision was never actually HBO's. According to the company, Parker and King were the ones with the power to decide. When fans demanded to know the fate of the show, Chief Content Officer Bloys responded back in February,
"It's honestly Michael and Sarah‘s decision. They need to make sure they want to keep going. I believe they will. They came to us with this idea of Big [Chris Noth] dying as a way to get into a story about women in their 50s."
In regards to the prolonged wait, he said,
"I think they want to make sure they have something they're equally excited by."
"And Just Like That..." is streaming now on HBO Max.
