All Four Officers Involved In George Floyd's Death Face Charges

After his untimely death in Minneapolis, 50 states and hundreds of protests later, charges are coming for the rest of the officers.

Former Officer Derrick Chauvin pressed his knee to George Floyd's neck for nine minutes until he died from asphyxiation from sustained pressure according to the autopsy report. Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder and all officers involved were fired. Officers Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng helped restrain Floyd while Tou Thao stood near them. These three men were not initially charged but are now charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder along with aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is increasing Derek Chavin to second degree murder and is charging the other 3 officers, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao. If these former officers are charge with second degree murder and aiding and abetting it is punishable by up to 40 years in prison. Additionally, manslaughter and aiding and abetting manslaughter are punishable by up to 10 years in prison. This will not be the end to police brutality and the black lives matter movement will continue to fight but it is a step in the right direction.
