Walking Right Past Colin Farrell

In the upcoming The Batman film, set to release in October 2021, Wright plays the role of Commissioner Gordon. Alongside him on set is actor Colin Farrell, who is set to play Penguin. Wright explains that with makeup and prosthetics, Farrell was unrecognizable during filming! He says:

"I've worked with that make up artist before and it's just incredible. Colin walked on to set one day and I walked right passed him. I was like 'ok, hey dude what's happening, where's Colin are we going to shoot.' It was, it's pretty remarkable."

A CGI-Free Trailer

Throughout the interview, Wright talks about the impressive filming techniques of the crew. The teaser-trailer for the film just dropped this month, leaving fans in awe of the action scenes and dark, dramatic themes to come. The actor talks about the trailer, saying:

"I think if you look at the trailer, if I am not mistaken, there is not one CGI image in the entire thing. That's all photograph."

'The Batman' Sticks To The DC Comics Tradition

With comic book films making a big mark on the film industry, Wright describes The Batman as grounded, and a movie that takes a look at an "American city through a lens of crime." He also says that the film sticks to the DC comic name:

"You go back to the original, it's DC it's Detective Comics and the script is really beholden to that, beholden to this idea that Batman is the world's greatest detective."

An Impressive Bat-Mobile

Before filming even took place, Wright says that one of the things that excited him the most, was the bat-mobile. The bat-mobile has been portrayed in different ways in the past, but he says that the way it was described in the script was:

"It was described as this kind of retro hyper hemi 5 muscle car that was just the craziest, coolest thing that you'd ever seen. When I read that I said 'aha yes' because what it was trying to achieve and what it does achieve, is to create an accessibility for our Gotham a world that is tangible and grounded and very familiar reality but at the same time it's still fantastical, it's still tweaked, it's still arched but it's accessible."
