In 2018, Universal Studios officially announced the purchase of film rights for the Tony Award Winning Musical, Dear Evan Hansen. That adaptation will become a reality very soon as it has started filming. While speaking with James Corden on ADDERLEY SCHOOL Red Talk, Tony Award Winner, Ben Platt officially confirmed that the 'Dear Evan Hansen' movie has started filming. The movie will be shot in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and California. In the discussion, around the 44:00 minute mark, Platt officially confirms:

An adaptation of the 2017 Best Musical Tony Award Winner, Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of Evan, a High Schooler who struggles with social anxiety. IMDB summarizes the movie as a, "Film adaptation of the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical about Evan Hansen, a high school senior with Social Anxiety disorder and his journey of self-discovery and acceptance following the suicide of a fellow classmate."

The cast for the film includes: Ben Platt reprising his star making role as Evan Hansen, Julianne Moore as Heidi Hansen, Kaitlyn Dever as Zoe Murphy, Amy Adams as Cynthia Murphy, Amandla Stenberg as Alana Beck, Colton Ryan as Connor Murphy, Danny Pino as Larry Murphy, DeMarius Copes as Oliver, and Nik Dodani as Jared Kleinman.

The movie is directed by Stephen Chbosky, written by Steven Leveson, with music by Pasek and Paul. The film will be produced by Marc Platt.
