According to The Hollywood Reporter, the WWE will now offer a free version of their network.
What You Need To Know
WWE Superstar, Becky Lynch
Announced in 2011 and launching in 2014, the WWE Network is the ultimate service for all WWE fans. From pay per views to original content, this platform has something for every wrestling fan. The free version has over 15,000 titles, including select pay per views from the company's past, and original content which the network has been praised for. One new show that comes with the free version is "Raw Talk," the post-show discussion of the longest-running episodic TV show in history 'Monday Night Raw.' The free version will not include the live streams of new pay per views. WWE VP Of Advanced Media Jayar Donlan describes the free version to The Hollywood Reporter as:
"A balance of providing a great experience for our fans by essentially offering unlimited access to a larger array of programming while still maintaining the value of our more premium content at $9.99 per month."
What is the WWE Network?
While WWE has TV Programs including Monday Night Raw on USA, Friday Night Smackdown on Fox, and NXT on USA, their network offers so much more to fans. The network includes every pay per view from WWE history, and both now out of business WCW and ECW libraries. Also with the massive pay per view library comes a huge collection of original content including: Undertaker: The Last Ride, WWE Chronicle, WWE 24, Ruthless Aggression, WWE The Day Of, Table For 3, Ride Along, The Monday Night Wars, and many more specials. The premium version is only $9.99 compared to the old $60 per Pay Per View system and no extra content. The network has 2.1 million subscribers as of April 2020. The news of a free version comes after rumors of the network being sold to ESPN or Fox started to circulate. Jayar Donlan describes the reasoning for the free version:
"As we continue to reimagine WWE Network's offering, the Free Version will serve as an effective way to reach a broader group of consumers and allow them to experience the history and spectacle of WWE."
The free version of the WWE Network is available now.
