Wonder Woman

This is the third time the film's release has been pushed back due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

From June to August, then October, and now December, Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back yet again, this time to Christmas day. The upcoming sequel to DC's Wonder Woman was originally scheduled for release June 5th but has now been slated for December 25th in response to COVID-19.

This decision comes as movie theaters attempt to ensure guest safety while distribution companies wait to ensure good opportunities at the box office. The first film of the remade Wonder Woman franchise was a box office hit for Warner Brothers Studios and the DC Comics IP. The 2017 film collected over 800 million in box office revenue and recharged the DC Comics brand.

Much of its success was due to star of the film, Gal Gadot. Since debuting her take of the super heroine in her own stand alone film, Gadot has received high praise for not only her performance, but activism as well. She has since continued to fight for equal rights and representation for women in Hollywood and was even named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2018.

We spoke will Gadot following the release of the first film and she had this to say about the role:

"I think it's great that finally, you know, girls and boys will have a strong female figure to look up to. And, me-myself, I have two daughters and I'm happy that they're going to grow up and have a good, strong, inspiring, female figure to look up to."

Additionally, Gal Gadot received the 2018 SeeHer award at the Critic's Choice Awards. The honor is meant to acknowledge and celebrate those who accurately reflect and empower women in media.
