Will Smith's stand-up comedy series was cancelled--but not for the reason you think.

Smith's Roku show "The Joka" will not be returning for a second season. Though it follows his controversial slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony, the streamer claims the incident had nothing to do with the decision.

The show saw established and starting comedians come together to discuss their craft as Smith engaged in conversations with comics such as Punkie Johnson, Demi Adejuyigbe and Baron Vaughn.

The reason behind the project's cancellation is complicated, as the decision to renew the show had to be made before the first season released. Roku was unable to gage viewership before their verdict, making a second season unlikely from the start.

Unfortunately for Smith, "The Joka" is only the latest project of his to face cancellation following the slap. Netflix has also decided not to move forward with his stand-up special, which was announced in 2021 but had not yet been filmed.

In addition, Netflix stopped production on "Fast and Loose," a film Smith was set to star in. A National Geographic nature program featuring him has also been deserted.

While "The Joka" was unaffected by the Oscars Slap, Smith has now faced the cancellation of three separate projects because of it. He has also resigned from the Academy, and has been banned from attending the awards ceremony for the next ten years.
