But this year obviously looked a little different due to the pandemic, as movie theaters were barely open this year. However, theaters still received a fair turnout of individuals coming to relax at the movies on their holiday weekend. Here were the top movies at the box office this past Thanksgiving weekend:
'The Croods: A New Age'
The Croods: A New Ageheld the top title at the box office this Thanksgiving, grossing about $14.22 million just over the give-day Thanksgiving holiday frame. The sequel to The Croods tells the story of the original characters going into the unknown in search for 'tomorrow.' If the film keeps up the success, they will surpass Tenet as the biggest three-day box office since the pandemic began in March.
'Freaky'
Spooky season isn't finished just yet, as Freakyplaces 2nd in the box office. However, there's a huge gap between The Croods: A New Age and the rest of the box office. While The Croods received a whopping 14.22 million over the five-day frame and $9.7 million over the three-day frame, Freaky only received $1.1 million over the five-day frame and just $770,00 over the three-days.
'The War With Grandpa'
The War With Grandpa comes as #3 in the box office, grossing $892,000 in the five-day and $644,000 in the three-day. This comedy stars Robert DeNiro as Grandpa Jack, who moves in with his kids and grandchildren.
'Let Him Go'
Let Him Go received $670,000 in the five-day and $453,000 in the three-day. The film stars Academy Award nominee Diane Lane and Academy Award winner Kevin Costner. The two leave their Montana ranch to search for their grandson who is in danger.
'Come Play'
Come Play is a modern horror movie, as the monster can only be seen through an electronic device. This thriller had $387,000 in the three-day weekend.
'The Santa Clause'
As one of the most classic holiday movies ever made, The Santa Clause came in #6 at the box office. Even though the movie was made in 1994, the trilogy continues to stay popular for audiences. The Santa Clause made $170,000 this weekend.
'Frozen'
The movie Vanguard came in 7th place, and Frozen, a fan favorite, came in 8th with $120,000 over the weekend.
