News outlets confirmed on Wednesday the award-winning NBC drama series will be coming to an end after its sixth season.
Sources have confirmed with both The Hollywood Reporterand Variety that the network is set to announce the ending of This Is Us on Friday.
Season 5 of This is Us is currently airing, with a filming for season 6 slated for this summer so the show's last season can be expected to air during the 2021-2022 broadcast season.
However, some fans may have seen this coming. After the show was renewed for three more seasons in May 2019, sources also confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter at the time that season six would likely be the last for some of the show's biggest stars like Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown.
The good news is that viewers can definitely expect a well thought-out and possibly satisfying ending. The show's creator, Dan Fogelman, is hardly ill-prepared for the ending of the show. He told THR in 2019:
"We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, so we have a very direct plan. I have script pages I have written and I'm writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. We have a plan for what we're going to do, and I know what the plan is."
This news also comes days before NBC is set to announce its upcoming 2021 fall broadcast schedule, which will arrive on Friday.
