Even though most theaters are shut down due to the pandemic, some independent and drive-in theaters have found ways to stay open. This past weekend, Dave Franco's The Rentaltook first place at the box office.
About The Film
Dave Franco's horror/thriller film revolves around two couples that rent a house for a weekend and later on discover a hidden camera in the bathroom. A series of many unfortunate and fearful events occur afterwards and throughout the film. The Rental earned many positive reviews over the weekend and made over $420,000 across 251 theaters, according to Box Office Mojo.
This was Franco's first time directing a film. In an interview with Moonlight director Barry Jenkins, he spoke about how his wife and star Alison Brie made the process easier for him, sharing:
"There were moments throughout the shoot where I would really get into my own head and start to doubt myself in small ways. And so to be able to go home to her every night and have someone who would build me up and remind me that things were going well and that I was doing a good job—it was invaluable and I honestly don't think I could have done this without her."
