Judd Apatow is bringing a new pandemic comedy to Netflix that is sure to resonate with audiences.
The Bubble tells the story of a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a quarantine bubble at a hotel as they try to finish up the latest film in an action franchise.
The all star-cast comprised of Leslie Mann, Karen Gillan, Maria Bakalova, Pedro Pascal, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key and Fred Armisen shot the film in the midst of pandemic.
"So meta, the whole experience. I meant it truly felt like my real life that we were then putting on screen. The lines were getting blurred and I was like, what's real and what's not? It was fun," Karen Gillan said.
After more than two years of COVID-19, Apatow wanted to create a film that acknowledged the universal hardships of the global pandemic, while doing so in a way that still made people laugh.
"We just wanted to make something that would be a way for people to commiserate about how awful some of this has been and how you know we've all been so isolated from each other and how hard it is to work, so it felt like the time to do something really silly and stupid about that," Apatow said.
The Bubble, not only satirizes the events of the pandemic, but of the acting industry itself.
Samson Kayo, while glad to be out and about again shooting the film, says he forgot how talkative actors could be.
"We were so happy to be outside because we shot it during the pandemic so being around everyone we just remembered that actor's are very chatty," Kayo said.
The Bubble is streaming on Netflix now.
