The 2020 Tony Awards Will Be Held Digitally!

Since March, Broadway has been shutdown. Questions of when and how The Tony Awards would be held remained rampant in the Broadway community, but the news if finally in!

2020 Tony Awards Online!

Today it was announced that the Tony Awards will go online for the first time in history. The move, while exciting to some, is confusing to others. Several big musicals including Six, Mrs. Doubtfire, West Side Story, Girl From North Country, Diana, Company, and more won't be eligible. Musicals that will be eligible include Moulin Rouge, Tina, Jagged Little Pill, and The Lightning Thief. The awards will be held in the Fall, how and when are still being discussed.

In a statement, Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, President & CEO of the American Theatre Wing stated:

"Though unprecedented events cut the 2019-2020 Broadway season short, it was a year full of extraordinary work that deserves to be recognized. We are thrilled not only to have found a way to properly celebrate our artists' incredible achievements this season, but also to be able to uplift the entire theatre community and show the world what makes our Broadway family so special at this difficult time. The show must go on, no matter what – and it will."

The 74th Annual Tony Awards will air this Fall.
