Happy Monday, y'all! I had such a good weekend. I know no one cares, but I got a 35mm camera for $12 at a thrift store. The cashier thought it was broken, and it works perfectly. My followers can get ready for faux-deep pictures of stop lights on my Instagram, and you can get ready for this week's tastebreakers!
Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED 1.5
Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats are back in the studio with a sequel to 2020's UNLOCKED mixtape.
Kenny Beats, full name Kenneth Instrumentals, is one of the best producers out there who hasn't quite hit mainstream appraisal yet. He has this great habit of committing to full projects for the artists he works with, including Curry, Dominic Fike, Rico Nasty, 03Greedo, and ALLBLACK.
He's going to be one of the biggest producers in the entire world soon, keep an eye on what he's doing. His YouTube show The Cave is also one of the best looks at an intimate recording session you can get.
As for this album, it's just great flow on top of great beat on top of great flow on top of great beat. It's a fun side project from two people who'll be running the industry in a few years. And features from The Alchemist, Joey Badass, and Smino certainly doesn't hurt either.
The Dictator
In honor of Sacha Baron Cohen's big Golden Globes performance, let's take a look at another classic of his: The Dictator. This one often gets swept under the rug in favor of Borat or Bruno, but it's still a great work from the brilliant satirist.
This is perhaps his most provocative work to date, which is saying a lot, and contains such blunt irony and satire that takes direct aim at the deified monarchs of the world.
"Imagine if America was a dictatorship. You could let 1% of the people have all the nation's wealth. You could help your rich friends get richer by cutting their taxes, and bailing them out when they gamble and lose. You could ignore the needs of the poor for healthcare and education. Your media would appear free but would secretly be controlled by one person and his family...I know this is hard for you Americans to understand, but please try"
The Mandalorian
I'm kinda going off the indie track this week, aren't I? Well, whatever. Look, I just got Disney+, and The Mandalorian is the best part of it. By a mile.
I recently wrote an article ranking the Star Wars movies, and I'll be honest, I had a lot to complain about. What Star Wars fan doesn't? The Mandalorian is unequivocally the first piece of Star Wars media that left me nothing but satisfied.
Everything was so so awesome. Every little bit of Star Wars satisfaction fans have been begging for since I was born got answered here. I'm not going to spoil anything but when, um, that guy, appeared in the last scene of season two, wink wink, I was actually screaming and sobbing. Here's a brief transcription:
Me: "OH MY GOD IT'S HIM"
Girlfriend: "Who? What?"
Me: "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT"
Girlfriend: "Are you crying?"
Me: "AND WHAT ABOUT IT THAT'S *redacted*"
It's the best thing I've seen in years.
My Friend Pedro
I used to play this game on MiniClip when I was a kid, making me pleasantly surprised when I saw this game pop up on my Switch's recommended page.
Make your way through countless waves of enemies with crazy acrobatics and evolving weapons, because a talking banana told you to do it. No, I don't really get it either, but do you want to do a kickflip and shoot somebody in the face? Of course you do.
