The popular dance competition So You Think You Can Dance on FOX will not be premiering their 17th season due to the ongoing threats of the COVID-19 pandemic.
So You Think You Can Dance debuted in 2005 and has had consistent success. Each dancer performs a piece of their choice in front of the panel of judges including Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Laurieann Gibson and Dominic "D-Trix" Sandoval in hopes to beat the competition for the cash prize of $250,000.
The series had plans to return this summer but in a statement with Variety, a rep for the broadcast network shared:
"Production on the dance competition series cannot move forward as planned due to health and safety restrictions caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic."
This will be the first time in history that the show will not be airing their season. Fans will have to wait a little longer as Variety also mentioned it will not be until summer 2021 when production resumes normally. Even with smaller scale productions resuming this month, So You Think You Can Dance was not able to fall under that category.
