It's out with the old and in with the new. Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially underway with the release of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings.


Marvel has served up another brand new story for fans, following the summer blockbuster Black Widow which focused on events from the past.

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings has been years in the making. The highly anticipated Marvel epic follows the title character, played by Simu Liu, who tries to live a normal life until his past haunts him.The title is in reference to a terrorist group that is familiar to die hard Marvel fans.

The Ten Rings showed up in the very first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man. You can learn more about the context behind the Ten Rings in the brand new installment of Marvel Studios' Legends streaming now on Disney+.

With Shang-Chi comes a whole batch of new characters, as well as a few familiar faces including Benedict Wong, of Doctor Strangefame. Not only is Simu Liu the first Asian-American actor to get a Marvel movie of his own, but most of Liu's costars are of AAPI descent as well.

Dallas Liu, who plays a supporting role in the film, had this to say to Advocate Channel about working with a cast of mostly Asian actors:

"It's an honor to represent my community. As well as this being like the first real superhero Marvel Asian sort of project. I think it's a huge step forward for the entire industry."
