The "Treat You Better" singer went on SiriusXM to talk about his relationship with fellow pop artist, Camila Cabello, his new song, "Summer of Love", friendship with Niall Horan and more.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been in a relationship for about two years now, and the couple is often seen in public holding hands, kissing or showing other PDA, but Mendes opened up about how it's not always like that. Just like any other couple they have their arguments even if it's over silly little things,
"We definitely fight, and we get in like the worst little arguments, but like, I think that we definitely are pretty good at picking up on when it's just ego talking. And we like, usually like call each other out. It's we have a really honest and open relationship, but, but yeah, no, we definitely fight."
The singer also noted that he will usually admit when he's in the wrong during a fight, no matter how hard it may be.
A new single by Mendes just dropped today called "Summer of Love". He says the inspiration for the song came to him while away in Miami for a couple months which was the first real time he's had off since he was 15 years old,
"I feel like meditation and tequila was a perfect representation of me coping through a really tough time. I was trying really hard to just meditate and be Zen, but also sometimes tequila was helping with that. So that's where this song kind of came from."
Mendes chatted about other topics as well. When asked by a fan what his favorite song is, he revealed that it's "Kiss Me" by Ed Sheeran. He also talked about how he thinks of Niall Horan as an older brother. Despite the rumors of them writing a song together, Mendes says they just hang out a lot instead of making music. On the topic of new music, Shawn also revealed that he is always working on new music and hopes that something else will be out before the end of this year!
