Shakira and Gerard Piqué have officially separated after nearly 12 years.

They announced, in a joint statement to E! News, on June 4, "We regret to confirm that we are parting ways."

Shakira’s and Piqué’s relationship became public in 2011. The Colombian singer met Piqué when he was featured in her music video for “Waka Waka” the year prior. Though the couple never married, they did have two children, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.

A few days prior to their statement, there were conspiracies surrounding the former Manchester United soccer player cheating on Shakira. Two journalists at El Periodico, Lorena Vazquez and Laura Fa, testify to have seen Pique partying and spending late nights in his hometown in Barcelona. Laura Fa observed, “Está desatado” and "desbocado de fiesta" (translated to as "He is unleashed" and "out of control at the party"). She also makes the claim he "se le ha visto acompañado de otras mujeres" (translated to as "has been seen accompanied by other women'').

Shakira was also noticed to be in an ambulance in Barcelona around the time Piqué was spotted, but she later clarified for her fans on Twitter,

“I just wanted to let you know that those photos are from last weekend (the 28th), when my dad unfortunately had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is recovering now. Please do send all your best wishes his way and thank you all as always for all of your love & support.”

The couple has disclosed that they want to keep the details of the breakup off the internet;

"For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding."
