1. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter laid to rest

Rosalynn Carter, former First Lady who transformed the role while solidifying her own humanitarian legacy, was laid to rest on Wednesday. Former President Jimmy Carter, who has been in hospice care for over a year, left to attend the services.

Carter passed away at the age of 96 last week. Her husband said in a press release at the time: “Rosalynn was my partner in everything. Her wisdom and support were my constant companions.”

2. Nikki Haley receives key endorsement, still no closer to GOP nomination

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Republican candidates are continuing their push to win their party's nomination and take on President Joe Biden. Most recently, the advocacy organization Americans for Prosperity Action, which is backed by billionaire Charles Koch and other wealthy conservatives, endorsed Nikki Haley as the alternative to former president Donald Trump.

Haley currently trails Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the national average, while DeSantis is trailing former President Donald Trump by nearly 50 points in 538’s average.

3. Respiratory viruses are on the rise as temperatures drop

Emergency rooms across the country have noted a spike in respiratory illnesses as winter weather rolls in. With the holiday season in full swing, cases are expected to continue rising, but there are ways to lower your risk of getting sick.

Healthcare professionals recommend to get vaccinated against the flu, COVID-19, and RSV, to wear a mask in crowded settings, and to wash hands frequently.
