Across the country, Americans are remembering those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. Despite the pandemic, New York City is moving forward with its 9/11 remembrance tribute and today, and we're taking the time to remember the heroes and victims of that horrific day.
Every year on September 11th, New York City holds the "Tribute in Light" from dusk to dawn to honor those who lost their lives. This year, the tradition was in jeopardy to the coronavirus pandemic. Upon outcry from the public, Governor Andrew Cuomo promised that the tribute would continue on. Sergeants Benevolent Association president Ed Mullins spoke to ABC 7 about the importance of remembering this day:
"It's important that no one ever forgets what occurred here..."
As NYC begins to see signs of improvement with COVID-19, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will reopen on September 12th.
During the height of the pandemic, our essential workers and first responders were put to the test once again. Today and everyday, countless individuals put their lives on the line to serve others, and we will never forget those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
