Last week, legendary English rock band Pink Floyd posted on their official Facebook page that the 50th anniversary of their iconic album The Dark Side of the Moon would be rereleased and remastered this year to celebrate the milestone.
While the news may be a joy to some, others are criticizing the band for the new logo of the album and its use of the rainbow — which was also a recognizable part of the original artwork.

Some anti-gay segments of the band’s fandom took the logo as a statement of support for the LGBTQ+ community, and their responses have started a wildfire.
Actor George Takei tweeted out some of the responses, saying, “The furor from the right over the 50th anniversary post by Pink Floyd as ‘going woke with rainbows’ is peak MAGA ignorance. It’s a prism of their own making, as it were.”

Comments screenshotted in Takei’s post included, “What is that Pink Floyd what a disgrace,” and, “Are you going woke with rainbows, is there a straight flag, I want equal representation, don’t get me wrong, we should all be true to who we are. Peace.”
But amidst the mass of hatred are also plenty, if not more, comments of support, especially in regard to people’s upset over the rainbow.
“It is weird to think that so many of us have forgotten that the rainbow is created by a light prism that is literally illustrated in the original art and also that one would get upset with the symbol of the rainbow in the first place,” wrote one user. “The world hasn’t changed for the better at all. These songs and messages still hold up as humanity struggles within itself to evolve to greater levels of acceptance.”
The remastered edition of The Dark Side of the Moon will be released on March 24, 2023.
