Netflix is adding another original series to its ever-growing list, as the streaming giant announces a new show to look out for. Voices of Fire, an unscripted gospel series, will be executive produced by Grammy award winner Pharrell Williams through his multi-media company, i am OTHER and A. Smith and Co.
"Voices of Fire" and More Coming from Pharrell Williams
News of the series was announced by Williams and his uncle on Sunday during the virtual Essence Festival of Culture. Voices of Fire will follow the Williams' uncle, Bishop Ezekiel Williams, a known and beloved musician around the Virginia Beach area. The show will follow Bishop Williams and the town of Hampton Roads as they build one of the world's greatest gospel choirs.
We'll be able to watch the bishop and his team of gospel leaders go all around Hampton Roads, Virginia to find undiscovered and untapped talent of all ethnicities, races, and backgrounds. They believe that in finding people from the most diverse backgrounds, their gospel group will have a stronger, more inspiring voice. According to insider sources, this show is a feel-good, upbeat project.
This is the second project Williams has announced through Netflix; his first being a project that is in early development and will be released as a feature-length musical about Juneteenth. Television writer and producer Kenya Barris is also on the project and is currently negotiating an overall deal at Netflix. Both Barris and Williams plan to create a live stage version to honor this holiday as well, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
Assisting Williams on Voices of Fire as executive producers will be Mimi Valdés, Arthur Smith, Frank Sinton, and Bianca Barnes-Williams.
