The acclaimed novel Persuasion is finally coming to select theaters in 2022, courtesy of Netflix. A new film based on the Jane Austen classic is being directed by Carrie Cracknell in her film debut.
Cracknell, a veteran theater director, is joined by Dakota Johnson (The Peanut Butter Falcon, Fifty Shades of Grey), Cosmo Jarvis (Peaky Blinders, Lady Macbeth) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians, A Simple Favor), seen here in their costumes from the film.

In the book, Anne Elliot (played by Johnson) is an Englishwoman in her late 20s whose family begins renting part of their house to an admiral and his wife. However, the wife's brother, Captain Wentworth (played by Jarvis) is an old flame of Elliot's, and this new living situation brings them into close contact with each other. As their passion for each other rekindles with unabated zest, they must also deal with each other's idiosyncratic family members. Persuasion was Austen's last completed work before her death from illness in 1817.
Though many versions of Persuasion have been made for the stage and even for television, this is the most significant adaptation to date. Filming began in May 2021 but a specific release date has not been announced yet.
