After the women's Norwegian beach handball team was fined for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms, pop singer P!nk offered to pay the necessary fine in support of the team.
Last week, the European Beach Handball Championships took place in Bulgaria. The Norwegian women's team ended up getting fined $1,770 by the European Handball Federation for not wearing bikini bottoms which are required for their uniform. P!nk was outraged by this and felt it displayed sexism in women's sports. She spoke out in a tweet,
I’m VERY proud of the Norwegian female beach handball team FOR PROTESTING THE VERY SEXIST RULES ABOUT THEIR “uniform”. The European handball federation SHOULD BE FINED FOR SEXISM. Good on ya, ladies. I’ll be happy to pay your fines for you. Keep it up.— P!nk (@P!nk) 1627181370
The Norwegian Handball Federation didn't see any issue with the decision so they were willing to pay the fine for them. The European Handball Federation quickly realized what they had done was not favorable and they have decided to make a donation out of the money that the team was fined and give it to a sports foundation that supports equality for women in sports.
