Will & Grace and Roseanne paved the way for a tidal wave of classic TV reboots!
Charmed Reboot
Premiering on The WB network in 1998 and running until 2006, Charmed is one of the more recent television shows to get the reboot treatment. This is a source of frustration to one of the original incarnation's stars, Holly Marie Combs, who has tweeted criticism of the decision to reboot the series with a new cast. She suggests that not bringing the original stars back is counter to the show's feminist message.
Murphy Brown Revival
Murphy Brown's time on CBS spanned a full decade, from 1988 to 1998. Now, after a 20 year hiatus, the investigative journalist is set to return to television. Star Candice Bergen returns, along with several of the original series cast members in a revival of the series. In the media obsessed world today, it feels like a perfect time for the seasoned journalist to help us make sense of the world with humor.
Magnum P.I. Reboot
The car, the scenery, the music, the mustache, there's so much about Magnum P.I. that is iconic. As one of the most consistently high-rated TV series from 1980 to 1988, CBS hopes this new iteration will embody the crime-filled drama of the original and maintain the magic, even if Tom Selleck's Thomas Magnum is now portrayed by a non-mustachioed Jay Hernandez.
