Netflix Projects 'Lupin' To Be "Our Biggest French Hit"

The streaming giant projects 70 million viewers in the first 28 days

The Netflix original French crime drama Lupin, following its Friday debut, already has Netflix executives buzzing, with massive international numbers over the weekend, calling it their "biggest French hit", via The Hollywood Reporter.

Projecting 70 million viewers in the first 28 days of a show debuting is big praise, even for a streaming giant like Netflix. For example, upon the recent debut of Bridgerton, Netflix claimed 63 million people had viewed the show within 28 days. The Queens Gambit, another popular release, garnered 62 million. This may come as a surprise to some in the states, as Lupin doesn't crack the American top ten list, but according to the same statement from Netflix, Lupin lands not only in the top ten, but number one in over a dozen countries. These include Italy, Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, and Sweden, among others. Though the streaming giant has been notoriously unprofitable in recent years despite being one of the largest streaming services on Earth, look for their quarterly numbers released on Tuesday to be positive, with originals like Bridgerton, The Queens Gambit, and Lupin drawing in international audiences and negating the need for the big syndication purchases they've made in the past.
