Natalie Portman is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this time she has a hammer.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed new details about the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday. There, he officially announced that Portman will reprise her role of Dr. Jane Foster and wield Thor’s hammer Mjolnir as the character “Mighty Thor" in the new film.
Stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are returning for the highly-anticipated fourth installment of the MCU’s Thor franchise. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi will also write and direct the new film.
"[Waititi] pitched [the story] to us, and we were totally in,” Feige said. “[Portman]’s part of the MCU family and we put she and Taika together. It took one meeting and she agreed to do it."
The movie’s plot was inspired by a comic book storyline from 2014, and Feige said the story is “incredible” and “full of emotion.”
Portman said on Instagram that she is “so thrilled” about the news, and we're so excited to see Thor: Love and Thunder! The movie is set to premiere Nov. 5th, 2021.
