In a recent interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Miley Cyrus revealed that she "fell off" her sobriety during the pandemic.
The Midnight Sky singer has established an open relationship with her fans regarding her drug and alcohol use, and now she's taking it a step further by sharing how and why relapsed.
Cyrus shared:
"Well, I, like a lot of people, being completely honest, during the pandemic fell off... I fell off, and I realized that I now am back on sobriety, two weeks sober, and I feel like I really accepted that time."
Cyrus acknowledge her reasoning for initially getting sober, saying that she doesn't "have a problem with drinking," but rather, the "decisions I make once I go past that level." And with so many legendary icons passing at the young age of 27, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse, to name a few, Cyrus chose this past year to focus on sobriety.
She said:
"Twenty-seven to me was a year that I really had to protect myself...It's a very pivotal time. You go into that next chapter or this is it for you."
The star celebrated her 28th birthday yesterday, affirming the successful year. Now, two weeks sober Cyrus is looking ahead. Rather than focusing on the relapse with anger, she's choosing compassion.
"One of the things I've used is 'Don't get furious, get curious.' So don't be mad at yourself, but ask yourself, 'What happened?'"
Keep up the good work, Miley! We're rooting for you.
