Family Guy's Mike Henry Steps Down From Role As Cleveland

Cleveland Teaches Peter About Apples | Season 18 Ep. 1 | FAMILY GUY

Mike Henry is the latest white actor to resign their role voicing a character of color.

Mike Henry Steps Down From 'Family Guy' Role

Henry, who also voiced the same character on the (now-canceled) Family Guy spinoff The Cleveland Showmade the announcement on Twitter, saying:

"I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color, Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role."

But Henry's Not The Only One...

The announcement comes shortly after The Simpsonsdeclared it would no longer have white actors voice non-White characters. That decision came months after Hank Azaria said he would no longer voice the popular Simpsons character Apu, saying to The New York Times:

"Once I realized that that was the way this character was thought of, I just didn't want to participate in it anymore. What happened with this character is a window into an important issue. It's a good way to start the conversation. I can be accountable and try to make up for it as best I can."
