Calling all Batman fans!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming has wrapped on the set of The Flash, and Michael Keaton is set to reprise his role as Batman. This time around, both Keaton and Ben Affleck will return as Batman. Now, you may be reading this thinking, "how on Earth is that possible?" Well, lucky for the writers, The Flash universe doesn't necessarily take place on the Earth that we know. In The Flash, the title character will explore parallel universes, which will allow for two different Batmans in the same movie. The only problem is, Keaton didn't exactly understand the logistics of these parallel universes. He had this to say about trying to understand the script:
"I had to read it more than three times to go, 'Wait, how does this work?' They had to explain that to me several times. By the way, I'm not being arrogant, I hope, about this. I don't say it like, 'I'm too groovy.' I'm stupid. There's a lot of things I don't know about. And so, I don't know, I just kind of figured it out, but this was different... I get this on a whole other level now. I totally respect it. I respect what people are trying to make."
He continued:
"I never looked at it like, 'Oh, this is just a silly thing.' It was not a silly thing when I did Batman. But it has become a giant thing, culturally. It's iconic. So I have even more respect for it because what do I know? This is a big deal in the world to people. You've got to honor that and be respectful of that."
Keaton's costars include Ezra Miller, Kiersey Clemons, Sasha Calle, and of course, Ben Affleck.
The Flash is set to be released November 4, 2022.
