Mattel released a Maya Angelou Barbie Doll on Thursday as a part of their Inspiring Women Collection.
Due to her incredible activism, written works, and teachings, Dr. Maya Angelou has received numerous awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and has permanently left her mark as one of the most influential women of our time. Mattel stated:
"Maya Angelou Barbie® doll is being presented to honor the history and impact of Dr. Maya Angelou's activism, work and achievements."
The Barbie wears a floral head-wrap and floor length dress, and she carries Angelou's most famous work, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
The Maya Angelou Doll joins Mattel's Inspiring Women series next to other heroines including Ella Fitzgerald, Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, and more.
The company created the doll in efforts to honor their 2020 statement in support of the black community, in which they promised to increase their black representation, dedicate resources to help support black girls, and more.
While the doll is already sold out, you can visit the website to be notified when it is back in stock.
