Latino boy band "Menudo" is in search of a new beginning. After a twelve-year hiatus, Ricky Martin, Menudo's most successful band member is looking to reboot the group with a global talent hunt, led by Mario Lopez.
This July, Martin and Lopez are holding online auditions for children ages twelve to sixteen, with live callbacks in multiple cities. Those auditioning must upload their submission to the Menudo App, which Lopez will soon be launching. As Menudo Productions CEO, Paul Tarnopol, explains,
“By utilizing social media, the Metaverse, and A.I., Menudo will connect with fans in ways unimaginable just a decade ago."
Menudo is looking to re-dominate the Latin pre-teen and teen markets, but "A New Beginning," which will be the band's name, vows to uphold the safety and wellbeing of its new members, promising shared revenue in all concert, merchandise, and record sales. Tarnopol adds,
“More importantly, our management team is committed to the safety, well-being, and financial security of each-and-every member of Menudo; This is what we mean by ‘A New Beginning.'”
To be a part of the new Menudo takes more than singing and dancing skills. Lopez shared with Billboard that interested contestants should keep in mind they need someone that can "handle the responsibilities of becoming globally recognized and embrace being a role model.”
Lopez went on to share his hopes for the new journey.
“I’m excited to see all kinds of people around the world share the same experience as we did growing up. Menudo was truly the OG boy band. To recreate it will be incredible.”
