Marilyn Monroe's 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' Dress Is Damaged Following Kim Kardashian's Met Appearance

Kim Kardashian’s 2022 Met Gala look has re-sparked controversy after photographs of the dress were posted online.

According to The Marilyn Monroe Collection website, Chad Michael Morrisette discovered permanent damage while attending Ripley's in Hollywood.

In an article, Marilyn Monroe historian Scott Fortner says he had “noticed rips and tears, crystals missing, and some literally hanging on by threads,” following Kardashian's appearance at the 2022 Met Gala.

The dress marks a significant moment in history, as it was worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962, while she sang "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to President John F. Kennedy.

The dress had been loaned to Kardashian from its current owner, the Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum. Following the Met Gala, the museum made multiple statements, assuring the public of their extensive efforts to protect the quality.

On their instagram they shared,

“Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history. With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority.”

However, since the photographs of the dress have surfaced, Kardashian nor the museum have commented.
