Eight stars from the hit series Love & Hip Hop are diving into their own family histories to learn about their ancestries.

"This show really helps us to understand where we come from and just how valuable we are," Yandy Smith-Harris said.

The two-part special takes the cast on a journey as they understand their lineage and roots.

"I found out I'm from Nigeria and that was just amazing to me. I'm from Trinidad, but my ancestors were taken from Nigeria to Trinidad," Karlie Redd said.

The Love & Hip Hop stars also unite with the cast from Black Ink Crew to get tattoos celebrating their family trees.

"This is the definition on African history, so being able to go and get the tattoo... I think it's important for our people to know exactly where they come from," Rich Dollaz said.

"I'm happy it's showing during Black History Month. I'm happy our people get to see us in another light. They are going to learn from this experience just like we learned from this experience. I hope it becomes like a wave, a vibe... I hope everyone wants to get swabbed after this," Paris Phillip said.

The second part of Love & Hip Hop: Lineage to Legacy airs February 14th on VH1.
