'Labyrinth 2' To Be Directed By Scott Derrickson of 'Doctor Strange'

The cult classic is getting a modern day sequel.

The 1986 musical fantasy Labyrinth (originally directed by Jim Henson and executive produced by George Lucas) was a box office disappointment turned cult classic. Starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, this was the last feature film that Henson directed. Now enter Scott Derrickson, who passed on directing the sequel to Marvel favorite Dr. Strange, is now slated to direct Labyrinth 2.

Maggie Levinson, who directed and wrote Hulu's Into the Dark and My Valentine, will be writing the script. Other than Doctor Strange, Derrickson has also directed movies such as Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil. According to Deadline, Lisa Henson of the Jim Henson Company will be producing, and Brian Henson will be executive producing along with Derrickson and collaborator C. Robert Cargill.

For those who have not seen the first movie, or even those who are feeling a little nostalgic, here is the trailer of the first Labyrinth to get a feel for what could be in store:
