'King Richard' has something to say about Smith's behavior.

Richard Williams has spoken out about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at Sunday's Academy Awards.

Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena Williams, was the subject of their film "King Richard." Smith won the Best Leading Actor Oscar for portraying him in the movie.

Now, the "King" himself has something to say about Smith's behavior. Son and brother to the Williams, Chavoita LeSane, reached out to NBC news to share his father's opinions on the incident.

Richard Williams states,

"We don't know all the details of what happened. But we don't condone anyone hitting anyone else unless it's in self-defense."

Williams has been resting ever since suffering a stroke. Both he and his son declined to comment on Smith's acceptance speech, where Richard was mentioned directly.

Smith opened by apologizing, before thanking the entire cast and crew, saying that the occasion "isn't about winning an award." He continued,

"It's about being able to shine a light on all of the people [...] the entire cast and crew of 'King Richard' and Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family."

Smith's mention of Williams came shortly after, when he compared himself to the movie's subject.

"Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said. I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things. Thank you for this honor, thank you for this moment. I thank you on behalf of Richard and Oracene, the entire Williams family. Thank you. I'm hoping the Academy invites me back."

This is Smith's first Oscar win, despite being nominated three times. Some speculate that the Academy may rescind his award because of his outburst. An unlikely punishment, given the litany of famous men who have kept theirs after committing much more heinous offenses. Still, the Academy has announced an investigation into Smith's conduct.
