The comedian, who lost two siblings to cancer, revealed on social media that she herself has been diagnosed with stage one lung cancer.

In the post, Griffin wrote:
"I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed."
In what is possibly the most shocking part of the post, Griffin continued:
"Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked."
This was shocking as most people assume that lung cancer only affects smokers when that clearly isn't the case.
Not only did Griffin reveal her diagnosis, but she also urged her followers to get medical checkups and the COVID-19 vaccination. She said the consequences "would have been even more serious" had she not been vaccinated. Griffin is a polarizing figure who tends to cause controversy with her political opinions, but even her rivals put aside their differences and sent her well wishes during this time. For example, Conservative Carmine Sabia said:
"Politics is politics and life is life. I pray for the quick, full recovery of Kathy Griffin. May she defeat this evil disease."
