Oscar-award winning actor Jeff Bridges announced that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma on Monday evening. The 70 year-old star broke the saddening news on Twitter feed opening with a reference to his famous line as Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski in The Big Lebowski.
I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. Thank you for your prayers and well w… https://t.co/DCO4rRYJKW— Jeff Bridges (@Jeff Bridges) 1603152016
He writes:
"I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.
I'm starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery."
The CDC describes lymphoma as "a general term for cancers that start in the lymph system (the tissues and organs that produce, store, and carry white blood cells that fight infections) which "becomes more common as people get older." This rare disorder affects less than 200,000 people a year in the US.
Bridges did not say if he has Hodgkins lymphoma or not.
The critically acclaimed actor also encouraged his followers to vote in the presidential election two weeks away at the end of his post.
We wish Jeff Bridges a safe and speedy recovery as he goes through a very difficult time.
