Jazz Jennings on 'I Am Jazz' and Transformative Life Steps
TLC's hit series 'I Am Jazz' is in the midst of its most anticipated season yet—for both the audience and its 18-year-old star Jazz Jennings.
Since the show's season premiere in January, Jennings and her family have taken viewers on a whirlwind of emotions as the teen finally has her gender confirmation surgery.
Jessica Napoli, Digital Writer at TV Guide Magazine, sat down with Jennings to discuss the tumultuous recent episodes, which highlight what Jennings calls a "transformative life step".
"It was not a nervous feeling whatsoever, because I fully prepared for this and I had my family there. It was just an awesome day."
Though Jazz's decision to share her personal journey with others has many hailing her as a trailblazer for transgender youth, Jennings said that, for her, it's all about finding validation within herself.
"I feel like, in this world, we're constantly trying to be loved by others, and we're seeking validation from those outside us — but you need to find that validation within yourself. Once you do that, and once you learn to love yourself unconditionally, then you'll realize that you don't need that validation from outside sources."
